A team of Delhi Police nabbed Dhaval Trivedi, 48, a tuition class teacher from Chotila in Surendranagar who had eloped with his 18-year-old student. Trivedi is also convicted of rape of a minor in Rajkot in a separate case.
Trivedi was nabbed from Solan district in Himachal Pradesh.
Local media said that Trivedi was brought to Gujarat on Monday. Media said the Gujarat police had passed on a tip-off about Trivedi’s whereabouts to both the Delhi and Himachal police.
A team of the Delhi police nabbed him on Saturday and he was later brought to Delhi before being brought to Gujarat.
The case against Trivedi in Gujarat
In August 2018, Trivedi had allegedly kidnapped an 18-year-old who was a student at his coaching centre in Chotila in Surendranagar.
After the cops failed to track Trivedi, the teen’s father moved the Gujarat High Court demanding that the case be given to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The High Court transferred the probe to CBI.
The woman, however, returned home eleven months after she went missing. This time she brought with her a baby believed to be fathered by Trivedi.
Local media reports said Trivedi was first hiding in a Gurudwara in Ludhiana in Punjab. Since he was fluent in Punjabi he had taken to teaching in a Gurudwara and had also changed his looks to look like a Sikh.
Police had tried to nab him in Ludhiana but he had escaped.
Trivedi convicted of rape
Earlier, Trivedi was convicted of the kidnap and rape of two minor girls of a private school in Rajkot in 2012. He was the principal of the school.
After the kidnap came to light, Trivedi and the girls had gone missing and remained untraceable for two years.
He was later arrested by the Punjab police from Mansa and the girls were also rescued. A special court in Rajkot convicted Trivedi of rape and sentenced him to life imprisonment in March 2018.
However, in August he was given parole and soon jumped it. He set up a coaching institute in Chotila where he eloped with an 18-year-old.
