Union Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, held in Delhi, has approved the establishment of 157 new nursing colleges across the country. These new medical colleges will be built across the country at a cost of Rs. 1570 crores. Under which 15,700 nursing graduates will be added.

Rishikesh Patel, Health Minister of Gujarat gave further details in the context, said that Gujarat has also received the gift of five new nursing colleges. The five new nursing colleges will be established in Navsari, Porbandar, Godhra, Rajpipla and Morbi GMERS Medical College Campus.
Each nursing college will have 100 B.Sc. Nursing seats. So a total of 500 nursing seats will be increased in the state. Patel added that for the establishment of each Nursing College, an estimated Rs. 10 crore has been allocated to the state government from the Central Government.
For the first time establishment of Nursing College has been covered under Centrally Awarded Scheme.
Rishikesh Patel said that with the addition of five new nursing college, the health education and treatment related systems of the state will get strengthen.
It may be mentioned here that currently 440 B.Sc nursing seats are available in 8 government nursing colleges in Gujarat.
