In an unfortunate incident, Gautam Patel, younger brother of Gujarat revenue minister Kaushik Patel, on Sunday committed suicide. Gautam Patel committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Ahmedabad’s Shilaj area.
Interacted with family before committing suicide
Deputy superintendent of police (Ahmedabad rural) KT Kamaria briefed the media about the incident. He said Gautam Patel had a chat with his family members on Sunday morning. Thereafter, he went upstairs to his room on the first floor of the house with a dupatta.
After some time, when his family members went upstairs, they found him hanging in his room, Kamaria said.
Notably, Gautam Patel’s son and daughter-in-law were present in the house when he committed suicide in his room.
Police immediately informed
The family members immediately informed the police. A team from the Bopal police station reached his residence. The police sent the body for post-mortem at the GMERS Medical College and Hospital, Sola. The police have registered a case of accidental death and started an investigation in the matter.

According to police, Gautam Patel is survived by his wife, son and daughter-in-law. He had a chemical and pharmaceutical firm in Khambhat town of Anand.
No suicide note found
Police said the reason for Patel’s suicide is yet to be ascertained. The police also did not find any suicide notes from the deceased room.
Ahmedabad superintendent of police Virendra Yadav clarified that primary inquiry in the suicide has not revealed anything. He also added that Gautam Patel, prima facie, was not suffering from any financial crisis or any mental or physical issue that would push him towards suicide.
Condolences pour in
As the news spread about Gautam Patel’s suicide, several MLAs, including elder brother and revenue minister Kaushik Patel, rushed to Gautam’s residence in Shalin Bungalows in Shilaj. Several senior BJP leaders and lawmakers in the state have expressed their condolences to Patel’s family.
