Gujarat reports its biggest single-day surge of 624 COVID-19 cases, death toll climbs to 1,809

Gujarat has recorded 624 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours ending 5 pm on Sunday. It is the biggest single-day spike recorded in the state so far. The second-highest surge was 615 recorded on June 27.

With the addition of the fresh cases, the total tally of COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 31,397, while the death toll is 1,809.

The state recorded 19 new deaths due to the disease of which 13 were in Ahmedabad, three in Surat and one each in Gandhinagar, Aravalli and Bharuch.

Ahmedabad recorded 211 new cases of which 198 were within city limits. With this, the total number of cases and deaths in the Ahmedabad district now stands at 20,480 and 1,423, respectively.

 Surat, Vadodara and Gandhinagar recorded 182, 44 and 10 new cases, respectively. The total number of cases in Surat stands at 4,424 while it is 2,165 and 635 for Vadodara and Gandhinagar.

The death toll in Surat so far is 150, 47 for Vadodara and 29 for Gandhinagar.

The state so far has 6,780 active cases of the deadly virus, of which 71 people are critical and have been put on ventilator support. Also, 22,808 people have been discharged so far.
