Gujarat has reported 965 fresh cases of novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours ending 5 pm on Sunday. It is the biggest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases reported by the state. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the state’s total tally to 48,441.
Also, 20 deaths were reported in the state during this period that has taken Gujarat’s COVID-19 related death toll to 2,147. While six deaths have been reported from Ahmedabad, nine deaths have been reported from Surat. Two deaths have been reported from Dahod. The districts of Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Jamnagar have reported one death each.
Of the 965 fresh cases reported on Sunday, 285 cases have been reported from Surat, 212 cases have been reported from Ahmedabad, 79 cases have been reported from Vadodara, and 30 cases have been reported from the state capital Gandhinagar.
This apart, Bhavnagar has reported 35 cases, Rajkot has reported 49 cases, Mehsana 22 cases, and Banaskantha 21 cases.
With the addition of the fresh cases, the total COVID-19 case tally in Ahmedabad has increased to 24,375. The total tally has reached 9,693 in Surat, 3,587 in Vadodara, and 1,090 in Gandhinagar.
Similarly, the addition of six fatalities reported in the past 24 hours has taken the death toll due to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad to 1,547. The death toll has increased to 258 in Surat, whereas it remains 55 for Vadodara and 38 for Gandhinagar.
According to the health department, there are 11,412 active cases of the virus in the state. Of this, 69 patients are critical and have been put on ventilator support. So far, 34,882 patients have been discharged in the state after being treated for the viral infection.
