Gujarat reports 45 fresh cases of coronavirus in 12-hours, case tally rises to 617


Gujarat has reported 45 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 12-hours ending at 10 am on Tuesday taking the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 617 in the state.

After two deaths on Sunday, two more deaths have been reported from Gujarat on Monday that pushed the state’s death toll due to COVID-19 to 26. However, no fresh death was reported in the past 12-hours ending 10 am on Tuesday.

Out of the 45 new cases, 31 cases are of Ahmedabad alone, whereas Surat reported nine fresh cases. Mehsana reported two fresh cases of the virus, whereas the districts of Bhavnagar, Dahod, and Gandhinagar have reported one case each.

With the addition of the 31 fresh cases on Tuesday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 351—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After the death reported on Monday, the death toll due to the deadly virus increased to 13 in Ahmedabad.

Apart from the 351 COVID-19 cases reported from Ahmedabad so far, Vadodara has reported 107 cases, followed by Surat with 42 cases and Bhavnagar with 24 cases. Rajkot has reported 18 cases, whereas the capital city of Gandhinagar reported 16 cases and Patan reported 14 cases. Bharuch has reported 11 cases, whereas the coastal district of Porbandar and the tribal district of Chhota Udepur have each reported three cases.

Anand has reported nine cases of the virus and Kutch and Mehsana have each reported four cases. The districts of Dahod, Banaskantha, Panchmahals, and Gir-Somnath have each reported two cases, whereas Jamnagar, Morbi, and Sabarkantha have each reported one case.

According to the Health Department, out of the total cases, nine people are in a critical state and put on ventilator support, 527 people are stable, 55 people have been discharged, and 26 have died. Information made available by the department also provides that 550 cases out of the total 617 are incidents of local transmission, 33 people have a history of international travel, and 34 have a history of inter-state travel.

As far as deaths are concerned, apart from the 13 deaths reported in Ahmedabad, four deaths have been reported from the diamond city of Surat, three deaths have been reported from Vadodara. Bhavnagar is trailing Vadodara with two deaths and one death each has been reported from Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Panchmahals, and Patan. Out of the 26 deaths, three had a history of international travel, three had a history of inter-state travel, and the rest 20 cases were incidents of local transmission.

So far, 13,751 people have been placed under quarantine.
