The campaigning for bypolls may have got the BJP all the eight seats but it has also brought the Saffron Party’s leaders in close danger of contracting COVID-19. One more BJP leader has tested positive for COVID-19. Minister of State for Women and Child Development Vibhavari Dave has tested positive for the disease.
Earlier the BJP’s Jan Sampark programmes had come under criticism for lack of social distancing in the same. Over seven people at the BJP’s office in Kamalam had tested positive. Several other BJP leaders have also contracted the disease and have successfully recovered from it as well.
Vibhavari Dave has been moved to UN Mehta Hospital for treatment. The Minister informed about her COVID-19 status and asked those who came in contact with her during the last fortnight to get tested and quarantine themselves.
Vibhavari Dave also said that despite testing positive, she was doing good and feeling well.
After a surge in COVID-19 cases post-Diwali and the bypolls, the Gujarat government had put on hold several of its programmes.
It had also limited the number of people in the swearing-in ceremony of its new MLAs. It was to hold several meetings with its district and talukas heads over the civic body elections which were also postponed given the COVID-19 situation.
