Aaquib Chhipa, Ahmedabad: Sixty-four of the total 229 industries which have been shut down in Ahmedabad district are from Vatva GIDC. Vatva GIDC constituted almost 28% of the total industries that were shut down in various GIDCs of the district as of December 31, 2020.
According to details shared by the state government, Vatva GIDC had the highest number of units – 64- that closed down. Kerala GIDC compromised 37 units that were shut down while 23 and 22 industries in Odhav and Naroda GIDC were shut down respectively.
Thirty-one industries were shut down by Dhanduka GIDC, while 30 industries collapsed in Dholka GIDC. Apart from this, five units each were shut down in Apparel Park and Behrampura GIDC in Ahmedabad.
The state said that reduced demand led to a fall in production and financial trouble for most of the industries that shut down. Some were closed due to personal reasons.
The state said it has taken steps for the revival of such industries which had closed down due to various reasons. The government said that they have reduced the transfer fee by 5% in the Gujarat Atma Nirbhar Package. Also, several other relaxations have been provided by the state government for the revival of closed industries in the state.
The highest 229 industries have closed down in the Ahmedabad district in the state. South Gujarat was also severely affected. Valsad had 192 units that shut down, Surat 180, Bharuch 178 as of December 31, 2020. In all, a total of 2,114 industries were closed down in 229 GIDCs of the state.
