The CID crime is searching seven villages in Vadodara and some in Mahisagar to trace the body of one Sheikh Babu, who was allegedly caught by the Fatehgunj Police on December 10, 2019, for theft and died in police custody. His body however has not been recovered.
Earlier the CID Crime with the help of Vadodara fire brigade had searched for the body in the canal flowing behind the Fatehgunj police station.
The search had revealed some bones but forensics had later concluded that the bones were that of an animal.
Sheikh Babu’s son Salim had alleged that his father was killed in police custody but since the cops could neither identify the accused nor get the body of the deceased, the victim’s family is demanding an inquiry by the SIT or the CBI.

After the case was transferred to Gandhinagar CID Crime Branch the six accused had surrendered and was sent to a remand of 10 days.
