Traders in Narol break open shops sealed by AMC, case filed against 22

Several traders in Narol have broken open about 90 shops that were sealed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for failing to get the required Building Use (BU) permission from the civic body.
The shops in the Business Point building were sealed by the ACM as part of its drive to seal shops without BU permission.

The traders not only broke open the seals but began to function from there following which the civic body filed a complaint with the Narol police.
The shops were sealed on May 31. Sources said the traders broke open the seal within minutes of the shops being closed which led to a complaint against 22 traders.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the AMC sealed 301 units of 25 different buildings in different zones of the city.
The civic body carried out sealing of 893 offices, shops, and classes, 378 hotel rooms, 10 schools, restaurants, and industrial units in various zones of the city in the last three days. 1,507 units in the industrial estates of Chandkheda, Nikol, Amraiwadi, Viratnagar, and Vastral were also sealed. In Paldi, a doctor whose clinic was sealed began his OPD outside the clinic.

AMC’s sealing drive

The AMC began its sealing drive on Monday and said that it will continue with the sealing drive in the coming days too. The abrupt sealing drive led to protests from traders who complained that the civic body’s action would further hamper a business already hit by COVID restrictions. The AMC’s move was seen as pre-emptive action against the PIL filed in the high court. Earlier the Gujarat government had eased restrictions on business hours.
