Minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s COVID vaccination drive, doctors in the state were among the first to receive the shot of COVID vaccine at Asarwa Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad.
Dr. Navin Thaker was the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Gujarat in the presence of CM Vijay Rupani and deputy CM -Nitin Patel in Ahmedabad.
Later, the former president of the Medical Council of India (Gujarat) also received the shot. Ahmedabad Medical Association president Dr. Mona Desai, senior doctor of IIPH Gandhinagar, Dr. Dilip Mavlankar were among the four who initially got vaccinated at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
Superintendent of Asarwa Civil Hospital, Dr. JV Modi, Superintendent of SVP Hospital, Dr. Sandeep Malhan also got vaccinated. In all 16,100 health workers will be vaccinated on Saturday at different health centers in the state.
About the vaccine drive
Those who are eligible for vaccination will be informed via a message about their turn to get the shot.
In the first phase, doctors, medical staff, and health workers will be vaccinated. All those who get vaccinated are kept under observation for some time.
Experts said despite being vaccinated it is a must to wear masks, follow social distancing, and other COVID prevention norms. Those who are under 18 or pregnant are not advised to take the shot.
