Surat crime branch nabs 5 members of Chikhlikar gang on the way for a loot


The Surat crime branch has nabbed five members of the Chikhlikar gang while they were on their way to loot a farmhouse. The five were in a car and were intercepted near Saniya Kande village on Thursday morning.

The cops had laid a trap near the village following a tip-off. When cops tried to flag down the suspected car at around 3 am, it turned around and tried to escape and in the process hit another police vehicle that was trapping them.

The car was then given chase by the police. It crashed into several other parked vehicles. The police after a scuffle managed to nab five members of the gang.

During interrogation, they told the police that they had come to loot a farmhouse near the village. Cops also recovered several weapons and tools that the gang planned to use during the loot.

All the arrested originally belong to Nanded in Maharashtra and Jalgaon. All the five are history-sheeters.

Loot and other crime in Gujarat

The data presented in the Gujarat Assembly showed that the state on average saw two murders, four incidents of rape, and six kidnappings every day in the last two years.

As many as 1,944 murders, 1,853 attempts to murder, 3,095 rapes, 4,829 abductions, and over 14,000 cases of suicide were reported in the state in the two years of 2019 and 2020.

Over 21,000 incidents of theft and 1,520 incidents of loot were also reported during the same period in Gujarat. The maximum number of murders (280) took place in the Surat district. Ahmedabad had the highest number of loot (479) and theft (5,566).

It also had the highest number of rapes (620) while Surat topped in Kidnapping cases (701) in the two years.
