As Surat gears up for the Municipal Corporation elections on Sunday, a photo of BJP candidate Somnath Marathe attending an alcohol party has gone viral. The former corporator and present BJP candidate is also a close associate of state BJP chief and Navsari MP CR Patil.
Marathe on his part has said that the pictures showing him enjoying alcohol are fake ones. Gujarat has a prohibition policy in place and laws that severely punish the violation.
Whether the pictures have an impact on the voter and dents the prospects of the BJP in the upcoming civic body elections remains to be seen.
Marathe has said that he has never attended an alcohol party and that this was the handiwork of his rival AAP candidate Vilas Patil.
AAP’s response to BJP
The AAP candidate Vilas Patil has said that the photo is an original one and that Somnath Marathe attended the party in question and the photo was clicked at the party.
Patil challenged Marathe to send the pictures to the FSL to check whether this was fake or not. In the picture that went viral, Marathe is seen sitting on a bed while alcohol bottles and glasses are seen littered in the room.
However, it is not known when the photo clicked. Several other people are also seen in the photographs.
