Students going abroad for studies to get priority in COVID vaccination in Gujarat

Students can get priority for COVID vaccination provided they show proof in the form of I-20, DS-160, or admission confirmation letter. In Ahmedabad, students will need to contact AMC west Zone deputy municipal commissioner to get on the priority list.

The Gujarat government on Monday announced that students who will be going abroad for further studies will get priority in COVID vaccination. The government announced that this will ensure that their plans are not hindered due to a lack of vaccination. It has given the power to district collectors and municipal commissioners to prioritize students for COVID vaccination.

The decision was taken at a core committee meeting chaired by chief minister Vijay Rupani. Those  who want to be prioritized will have to show proof in the form of an I-20 or DS-160 form or an admissions confirmation letter from the university. The students will have to personally contact the district collector.

What should students in corporation limits do?

Those from Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, and Gandhinagar municipal corporations will have to get in touch with the municipal commissioners with proof of admission.

In AMC, those who need to get on priority list will have to get in touch with the deputy municipal commissioner (west zone). The state said that it plans to ensure that such students are vaccinated on an urgent basis so that lack of vaccination does not affect their studies.

Ahmedabad saw 38,392 people being vaccinated in the last 24 hours. In all Gujarat has vaccinated 1.70 crore people of which over 2 lakh people were vaccinated in the last 24 hours. In all 1,12,381 people in the 18-44 age group were vaccinated during the same period.
