The SOG has nabbed two people with 70 kg of ganja from Shaherkotada area in the city. The accused brought the ganja to the city through the goods train.
SOG got a tip-off that a gang had been sourcing ganja and receiving it the consignment through the goods train. They then took the ganja home and distributed it among customers.
The cops kept an eye on the suspect to nab them red-handed. Cops nabbed Mohammed Ansari and Ramprakash Khateek with 70 kg of ganja worth Rs7 lakh.
The accused told the cops that the consignment was sent by one Surendra from Odisha and it was to be supplied to different people in the city.
First time ganja being sourced from Odisha being caught
Sources said this is the first time that the cops are coming across the consignment being sent from Odisha and the southern part of the country.
So far most of the narcotics consignments that were nabbed came from Punjab and Haryana.
Cops are also on the lookout for Surendra who is believed to be the handler of the two men who were arrested.
Cops said the two had got the consignment as a parcel that arrived in a goods train at Kalupur Railway station and had taken it to Shaherkotada.
They then made it into smaller packets to be sold to retail suppliers. The accused had been in the business for six months and this is the first time they have been nabbed by the cops.
