Gujarat slashes RT-PCR test charges for COVID at private labs


As Gujarat records a surge in COVID-19 cases the state has on the lines of Delhi announced a reduction in the cost of RT-PCR tests at private laboratories.

The state has said that the revised rates will be applicable with effect from December 1.

The decision was taken at the core group meeting held at the residence of chief minister Vijay Rupani to take stock of the COVID-19 situation in the state. The decision is to help more people get tested as the state records a rise in such cases.

Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel said the earlier price slab was decided taking into consideration the then situation and the fact that testing kits were also limited. But now that there is no shortage of testing kits, the government has decided to further reduce the charges for such tests.

What are the new charges for the RT-PCR test?

Now an RT-PCR test in a private laboratory will cost Rs800 which was earlier Rs1500 per person. In case the laboratory comes to collect the test samples of those who want to get tested, the charges will be Rs1,100 per person per test which was earlier Rs2,000.

It should be noted that in Delhi an RT-PCR test at a private laboratory has been capped at Rs1200 per test.

Gujarat COVID-19 figures on Monday touched 2,09,780 as the state recorded 1,502 new cases.

The state also saw 20 fatalities due to the disease. Of these, 13 are in Ahmedabad and two in Surat. Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Vadodara, Mehsana, and Morbi recorded one case each.

Of the total deaths in Ahmedabad, 13 were in AMC limits. Gujarat’s COVID-19 fatalities stand at 3,989. The addition of 13 cases reported in the past 24 hours has taken the death toll due to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad to 2,062
