Shalby Hospital has become the second private health care provider in the city to offer paid COVID vaccination. The hospital is offering the service at the drive-through facility at Sardar Patel Stadium. The hospital which is charging Rs1000 per dose said it is offering the vaccination at no profit no loss basis.

The hospital is looking at vaccinating 500 people in a day. The drive-through paid vaccination is being done with the support of AMC.

Head of Shalby Hospitals Vikram Shah said as many people as possible must be vaccinated against the disease before the third wave of COVID begins. He said the COVISHIELD vaccines were bought from the Serum Institute of India as per the Centre’s guidelines.

He said it cost the hospital Rs750 and Rs250 is the logistic cost of providing the same at the drive-through facility.

Shalby Hospital is second one to provide paid vaccination

The AMC earlier distanced itself from the drive-through COVID vaccination under the PPP model that began from Thursday onwards. The civic body distanced itself from the paid drive-through vaccination provided by Apollo Hospital for Rs1000 a dose.

The AMC’s distancing came following criticism that on the one hand people are struggling to get a slot to get the shot and on the other hand the AMC is joining hands to encourage hospitals for vaccination for a high cost. What is interesting is that the paid vaccination drive also offers on-the-spot registration while the free vaccination drive at government centres is yet to offer it.

The AMC also clarified that the drive is by the private hospital and the rates are also fixed by it.
