The surge in COVID-19 cases post-Diwali has not spared the police department either. In the last two days, 41 police officials in the department have tested COVID-19 positive.
Two days ago, 38 other police officials had tested positive including DCP, Police Sub Inspectors, Police Inspectors among others.
Seven officials of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch have also tested positive. All the officials who tested positive have been put under quarantine. Their families have also been asked to isolate themselves. None of them are reported to be serious.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Prantij MLA Gajendrasinh Parmar has tested positive for the disease. Surat Mayor Dr. Jagdish Patel has also tested positive for the disease.
Gujarat COVID-19 on Tuesday saw 1,510 new cases of COVID-19 and 16 deaths due to the disease. This is the second time that cases have gone past 1500.

On Friday the first time in over a month cases had once again crossed the 1400 mark. The state has carried out 84,625 tests in the last 24 hours. 1,286 patients were cured of COVID-19 in the state in the last 24 hours taking the recovery rate to 91.05%.
Of the 16 fatalities due to the disease, 12 are in Ahmedabad, three in Surat, and one in Botad.
Of the total deaths in Ahmedabad, all were in AMC limits and three in SMC. With this, the Gujarat COVID-19 fatalities stand at 3,892.
The addition of 12 reported in the past 24 hours has taken the death toll due to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad to 1,995.
