Anil Pushpangadan, Gandhinagar: Retired bureaucrat Sangeeta Singh has been appointed as the new Vigilance Commissioner. Sangeeta Singh had been handling additional charge as the Vigilance Commissioner for the last one year. Now, she has been appointed to the post.
Sangeeta Singh is a 1968 batch IAS officer who retired on October 31. She was additional chief secretary, home department at the time of her retirement.
Usually, a Vigilance Commissioner is appointed for three years. HK Das, the former Vigilance Commissioner was appointed to the post in 2016 and after his three-year term came to an end last year, Singh was given additional charge.
Now on the day, she was to retire, the state has appointed her as the Vigilance Commissioner.
The state has however not clarified on her term as Vigilance Commissioner.
As of now Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Department, Pankaj Kumar has been given additional charge of Sangeeta Singh’s post.
It is speculated that in the coming days he may be appointed as additional chief secretary in the home department.
Singh’s husband Sanjay Singh had retired from the Agri department and was appointed as State Election Commissioner.
The buzz in the bureaucracy is that since both husband and wife were in the good books of the state government they were accommodated post-retirement with good postings.
