A construction company PSP got to know about Rs12 lakh worth of theft of iron rods from its site when the Crime Branch informed them of the same.
The company had got the contract for the Punishka House at Sindhu Bhavan Road.
The company safety manager was informed of the theft by the Crime Branch after which he filed a complaint with the Vastrapur police station against the company storekeeper Shital Chaudhary and three others. The accused sold off the iron rods worth Rs12 lakh at the site.
How theft was detected
The Crime Branch had following a tip-off nabbed a truck at a transport godown near Ujala Circle with 26,900 kg of iron roads. Cops also nabbed one Manga Abbas Bukhari and Raju Meena.
During interrogation, the two told the cops that they had bought the iron rods worth Rs12 lakh from the storekeeper Shital Chaudhary at the Punishka construction site.
They told the cops that Chaudhary had got the rods unloaded at the godown instead of the construction site.
Crime Branch went to the construction site of the PSP company for further investigations. Cops told safety manager Bipin Patel about Chaudhary’s role in the theft. Chaudhary was not present at the site and hence cops returned empty-handed.
The safety manager and site manager later checked the stock and found that there was indeed a discrepancy. They found that Rs12 lakh worth of iron roads delivered on September 11 was never unloaded at the site and just showed it in the entry books.
