Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had debuted a victory in the civic body polls after three of its candidates won from Ward no 6 in Jamnagar, believed to be a BJP bastion. Two of its candidates have also won from other seats in the municipal corporation.
The victory in Ward no 6 of Jamnagar is particularly sweet for the BSP as three of its four candidates won. Each ward has four seats and parties announced a panel of four candidates for the ward. In Ward No 6, only one seat went to the BJP while the rest three were won by the BSP.
It is believed that the rising prices of essential commodities had the voters angry with the BJP.
What is interesting is that political pundits had talked about the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the AIMIM denting the traditional vote bank of the Congress and BJP but no one gave a chance to the BSP.
The winners in Jamnagar Ward no 6 include Furkan Sheikh, Jyoti Baravdia, Rahul Boriya, all from BSP, and Jayuba Jhala from BJP.
The results for the six municipal corporations elections are underway and so far 241 candidates of BJP, 46 of Congress and 17 other candidates are leading.
Jamnagar’s former deputy mayor Marshan Karmur who left BJP and joined the AAP has lost elections.
