A video that went viral allegedly shows alcohol being distributed after a meeting of the BJP in an attempt to lure the voters ahead of the civic body polls on February 28. Elections for the nagarpalika, district, and taluka panchayat will be held on Sunday.
The video is of Jambhusar village in Devgadh Bariya where country-made and foreign alcohol is being given to voters allegedly by those associated with the BJP. Beer boxes were also allegedly distributed among voters in the meeting.
After the video went viral, the district administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Cops have also sent the video of the FSL to know whether it is fake or not and to identify those who are in the video.
Elections to 31 district panchayats, 231 taluka panchayats, and 81 nagarpalikas will be held on February 28.
Campaigning came to an end on Friday and so political parties are not allowed to hold public rallies and meetings although they can hold the door-to-door campaign.
In all 8,302 seats in the nagarpalika and panchayats will go to polls of which 240 have already been won uncontested. In all, there are 22,170 candidates and 2.9 crore voters are eligible to vote.
Municipal corporation polls result
The BJP emerged victorious in all the six municipal corporations that went to polls in Gujarat. Elections were held for the municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar, and Bhavnagar on February 21. In Ahmedabad, BJP won a seat in Naranpura ward uncontested.
