COVID cases in Gujarat registered a drop on Friday with 9,995 new infections per day being recorded in the last 24 hours. In all, 15,365 patients were discharged during the same period. 104 deaths due to the disease were recorded in 24 hours in the state.
Ahmedabad and Surat Municipal Corporations recorded 15 and 9 deaths each while six and five deaths each were recorded in municipal corporations of Vadodara and Rajkot respectively.
All other districts except Dahod, Navsari, Bhavnagar, Narmada, Chhota Udepur, Porbandar, Botad, and Morbi have registered COVID fatalities.
The state at present has 1,17,373 active cases of which 786 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 6,09,031 patients while the fatality stands at 8,944.
Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 2,764 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 631 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 219 cases.
Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 639 and 316 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 98 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 82.82%.
Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 7.35 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 2.18 lakh cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 1.33 lakh cases and Vadodara over 65,000 cases.
COVID vaccination status
So far 1.47 crore people have been vaccinated in the state of which 33,050 were vaccinated in the last 24 hours. All the people who got vaccinated on Friday were in the 18 to 44 age group.
Vaccination for those in the 45+ age group has been suspended for three days from May 14 onwards. The state said it will be resumed from May 17 onwards. The vaccination for the age group was stopped as per the directive of the Centre. The announcement comes after the Centre announced that the gap between the first and second dose of the Covishield vaccine should be 12 to 16 weeks.
