The Centre may have relaxed online registration for vaccination for those in the 18 to 44 age group but Gujarat has said that online registration for the age group will be mandatory.

Principal secretary, health Jayanti Ravi said news going around that those in the 18 to 44 age group can get on-spot registration for vaccination is not true. She said as of now online registration for the 18 to 44 age group continues.

She said under the present online system a person after registering online will get the designated time, date, and place where he/she can get vaccinated and that system will continue.

Centre gives power to state on offline vaccine registration

The Centre in a notification on Monday said those in the 18-44 age group without access to the internet or smartphone can walk in to register and get an appointment for COVID vaccination.

It has also allowed for same-day registration and vaccination for some beneficiaries in the 18-44 age group provided there are unused doses of vaccine meant for those who had pre-registered.

The centre has given states the liberty to decide on-spot registration. However on-the-spot registration as and when it is offered can only be offered at government-run vaccination centres and not at those run by private hospitals.

It should be noted that walk-in registration is already available for those in the 45+ age group. The Centre had said it had not provided the facility for the 18 to 44 age group to avoid crowding at vaccination centres.

The Centre earlier announced that states will receive over 48 lakh doses in the next three days. It said over 1.80 crore COVID vaccines are available with states and the union territories.

The Centre said states have procured 21.80 crore vaccine doses either from the state or directly and the consumption of the same stands at 20 crores.
