NSUI members don PPE kits for protest, demands Class 10 repeater exam cancellation

Even as the state announced that the board exams of classes 10 and 12 will be cancelled, no decision has been taken about the Class 10 repeater exams. Repeater exams refer to the board exam conducted for students who could not clear their exams in the first attempt and hence are given an attempt mid-term.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student body of Congress had demanded that the exams for repeat students should also be scrapped. The members of NSUI on Thursday carried out a protest complete with PPE kits before the District Education Office (DEO) demanding the same.

Why class 10 & 12 board exams were cancelled

The Gujarat government on Wednesday cancelled the class 12 state board exams. The decision came a day after the Centre cancelled the CBSE class 12 board exams. Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama announced the same following a core committee meeting headed by chief minister Vijay Rupani. The decision brought relief to 6.83 lakh class 12 board, students in the state. Interestingly, the decision to cancel the Class 12 board exams came after the state had announced the schedule and date for the same.

Earlier the state had announced that it won’t be conducting CAlss 10 board exams. The decision was taken given the surge in COVID cases.

Last year, the Gujarat state board exams were conducted from March 5 to 17 and students needed a minimum of 33% marks to clear the same. Apart from Gujarat, Haryana and Rajasthan has also decided to cancel the state board Class 12 exams.
