As COVID-19 cases surge in Ahmedabad, Nitin Patel meets officials at Civil Hospital

Health minister and deputy chief minister Nitin Patel held a meeting at the Asarwa Civil Hospital in the city to take stock of the rising COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad. Patel later said while the cases were indeed on the rise, there was no need to panic.

Nitin Patel has ordered that testing be increased in the next two days and that the state will also ensure that adequate facilities are made available for those who may need treatment.

It should be noted that as the city has seen a surge in cases several beds in both private and government hospitals are quickly filling up.

Of the total patients who were admitted to Civil Hospital during Diwali, 91 were reported to be in serious condition. The Civil Hospital had also begun a new ward to cope with the rush in patients.

Ahmedabad has been witnessing a surge in cases as citizens thronged markets ahead of Diwali with social distancing going for a toss. Photographs of people going about without mask in crowded places in the city also did the rounds.

COVID-19 in Gujarat

Gujarat has reported 1,070 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours ending 5 pm on Sunday. The addition of the fresh cases has taken Gujarat’s total tally to 1,88,310.

Six deaths were reported in the state in the past 24 hours. The fresh fatalities have taken Gujarat’s COVID-19 related death toll to 3,803. While three deaths have been reported from Ahmedabad, one death has been reported from Surat. The districts of Rajkot and Vadodara have reported one death each.

Of the 1,070 fresh cases reported on Sunday, 187 cases have been reported from Surat, 219 cases have been reported from Ahmedabad, 140 cases have been reported from Vadodara, and 51 cases have been reported from the state capital Gandhinagar.
