First case of new COVID strain reported from Vadodara


The new COVID strain first found in the UK has now been reported in Vadodara too. This is the first instance of the new COVID strain being reported from Vadodara. With this, the total number of people infected with the new strain of COVID in the state has touched five.

As per available details, a 27-year-old who returned from the UK to the city was found positive for the new COVID strain. His samples had been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune and the institute later confirmed that he was infected with the new strain.

As of now, the youth is under observation at the Gotri Hospital in Vadodara. The health department is also tracing those who came in contact with the youth and they will soon be quarantined.

Other new COVID strain cases in Gujarat

Four people in Ahmedabad who returned from the United Kingdom earlier tested positive for the new COVID strain first reported in Britain. The four were put under treatment at the SVP Hospital in the city.

On December 23, 175 travellers from the UK had landed at the Sardar Vallabhbhai International airport in the city. All of them were tested for COVID and their samples were also sent to the Institute of Virology in Pune to be tested for new COVID strain. Later four of the samples tested positive for the new COVID strain. 

The four people who are under treatment at SVP Hospital include a couple, a woman, and a youth. The four are being treated separately, from the other COVID patients. 

A youth, who recently returned to Rajkot from the UK has also tested positive for COVID. The 31-year-old youth had returned on December 15.
