Narayan Sai gets temporary bail, Gujarat HC bars him from visiting ashram

Aaquib Chhipa, Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has granted interim bail of three days (January 31 to February 3) to self-styled godman and Asaram Bapu’s son – Narayan Sai who is sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case of 2014.

The high court granted temporary bail of three days as Sai’s 77-year-old mother is scheduled to undergo heart surgery on February 1. The court, however, clarified that Narayan Sai will not visit his Ashram either in Ahmedabad or Surat. During this temporary bail period of three days, the accused can only visit the hospital in which his mother is being treated. Police surveillance expenses for the temporary bail period are to be borne by the applicant, the court said.

The court asked the accused to submit a personal bond of Rs 10,000 with jail authorities. Earlier a furlough was granted to Narayan Sai.

Narayan Sai had sought furlough on the grounds that his mother is suffering from life-endangering ailments and her heart functions at 40% of its capacity due to the cardiac arrest that she had suffered earlier.

Narayan Sai was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Surat sessions court in a rape case filed by two sisters in two different complaints against him and his father. The younger of two sisters had alleged that Narayan Sai had sexually assaulted her when she was living in his Surat Ashram between 2002 and 2005
