Amdavadis paid Rs26 crore as a fine for violating the mask rule

Citizens in Ahmedabad coughed up Rs 26 crore as a fine for violating the mask rule. This was revealed in the assembly on Wednesday in response to a question by Congress MLA Indrajitsinh Parmar.

Parmar had sought details about the fine collected for mask violation and not following the helmet rule.

The home department in response revealed that as of January 30, 2021, the police department recovered crores in fines from violators in Ahmedabad district, the city, and Kheda district for violating both the rules.

In Ahmedabad city, Rs22 crore was collected as a fine for violating the helmet rule while Rs26.96 crore was collected for violating the mask rule. In all Rs49.19 crore was collected for violating both the rules in Ahmedabad city alone.

In Ahmedabad district (rural areas) Rs1.31 crore was collected for violating the helmet rule while Rs1.98 lakh was collected for violating the mask rule.

In Kheda district, Rs20.04 lakh was collected as a fine for violating the helmet rule while Rs8.77 crore was collected for mask violation. The cops also registered 399 cases against those who refused to pay the fine.
