A 75-year-old man was killed in a leopard attack in Dhari taluka of Amreli district early on Wednesday morning. This is the fifth such incident reported from the Gir and nearby areas in over a month.
Local reports said the victim Manubhai Savaliya, a resident of Amrutpur village was attacked by the cat while he was at his farm. He was reported mentally challenged.
Forest officials are waiting for the post-mortem report. Local media reports quoting forest officials said that the man lived alone in a cottage on his farm and was found dead on Wednesday morning. Leopard pugmarks were found near the area.
Earlier this week, a cattle herder was attacked by a lion in Madhupur village in the same area. A four-year-old boy was killed by a leopard in Nava Ugla village in Gir Somnath on January 7 this year. The child was attacked when he was on the farm with his parents.
On December 21, a 17-year-old girl from Dahod district was killed by two lions on a farm in Dhanfuliya village of Vanthali taluka of Junagadh district.
On December 24, Arti Makwana, another teen was attacked and killed by a leopard in Kasan village of Mahuva taluka of Bhavnagar district.
