  • The long queues pose a threat during COVID times

The shutting down of bill collection centres of Torrent Power has led to a long queue outside the main office. The company shut down the bill collection centres due to COVID but now a surge is seen near its office where people queue up to pay the bills.

Many have sought that mobile collection centres should be begun to avoid this situation.

Jhangipur Youth and Friends Circle Chief Pravinsinh Darbar said that the bill collection centres of Torrent Power were shut down citing the surge in COVID and the various restrictions imposed following the rise in cases. He said this has created problems particularly for poor customers in Naranpura, Amraiwadi, Sabarmati, Shahpur, and Vejalpur areas.

They are now forced to go to the main office of the company to pay the bills and end up standing in queue for two hours just to pay the bill. He said this also poses a problem during COVID times.

Darbar said Torrent’s collection centres should be opened every alternate day to help people pay their bills as many poor customers are not able to pay online.

A mobile collection van can also be used to address the problem. At present, the crowd at the main office poses the risk of further spread of COVID.
