Security has been upped for National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval after it emerged that a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist had done recce of several important offices including the NSA’s.
Media reports quoting security agency sources said the terrorist confessed to the same following his arrest. The recce was carried out on the instructions of his Pakistan-based handler.
The reports said officials were informed of a detailed recce of Doval’s office during an interrogation of alleged Jaish operative Hidayat-Ullah Malik, a Shopian resident who was arrested on February 6.
Malik is allegedly the chief of a Jaish front group, Lashkar-e-Mustafa.
Reports said the operative in 2019 came to Delhi from Srinagar to record a video of the NSA’s office, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) security detail there. This was given to his Pakistan-based handler through WhatsApp, the reports said.
Malik then returned to Kashmir in a bus. He also allegedly admitted to conducting a reconnaissance of the Samba Sector border area in the summer of 2019, the media reports said.
Malik was also involved in the loot of Rs60 lakh from a J&K Bank cash van in Shopian in November 2020, the reports said.
The operative began his career with the Hizbul Mujahideen in 2019 and then moved to Jaish in February 2020.
