The drama surrounding the resignation of Congress’ Jamalpur MLA Imran Khedawala has come to an end as he has withdrawn his resignation.
Khedawala also dismissed reports that his resignation was a pressure tactic to get the high command to do what he wanted to be done. Khedawala said his resignation was not a pressure tactic but his representation was indeed heard by the high command and so he withdrew his resignation.
He said he will continue to be a dedicated worker of the Congress. Khedawala had earlier met top leaders of the Congress. Imran Khedawala said he withdrew the resignation in the interest of the party.
“I am satisfied with the commitment made by the party,” Imran Khedawal said.
He said he will work for all the party’s s candidates from the Behrampura ward and will put in efforts to ensure that the party wins all the seats.
He said the Congress will take on AIMIM’s candidates and that the party has an edge over the new entrants in Behrampura. He said AIMIM will end up benefiting the BJP.
Why Imran Khedawala resigned?
Imran Khedawal had earlier sought tickets for four of his workers from the Behrampura ward but the party gave the mandate to only two of his workers and selected two other candidates on its own.
Khedawala was thus annoyed with the party for not selecting all four of his candidates.
Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda had rejected the resignation given by Khedawala. The MLA had also sought time from the speaker to submit his resignation and reports suggest that he was adamant on putting in his papers.
