Number of vacant ICU and oxygen beds outstrips occupied ones in Ahmedabad

  • 4,288 oxygen and ICU beds are occupied while 4,773 are vacant
  • Private hospitals have 3,479 and government ones have 1,294 vacant beds

For the first time in many days, Ahmedabad has reported less than 1,000 COVID cases per day. The decreasing COVID cases are also getting reflected in the surge in vacant ICU & oxygen beds available in the city.

In fact, for the first time in months, the number of occupied beds in the category is less than the vacant beds. The city has 4,773 oxygen and ICU beds vacant while 4,288 are occupied. Of this 1,294 are in government facilities while the rest are in private COVID hospitals.

AMC run SVP Hospital has 125 such vacant beds while LG has 84, Shardaben has 90 and VS has 108 vacant beds. Of the 179 designated COVID hospitals in the city, 2,529 beds are vacant while 242 nursing homes have 950 vacant beds.

The six civil hospitals have 852 vacant beds in the category while ESIC hospitals have 35 beds. The city in all has 9,061 ICU and oxygen beds of which 4,288 are occupied while 4,773 are vacant.

Availability of beds increase as COVID decreases in Gujarat 

COVID cases in Gujarat registered a drop of below 5,000 on Friday for the second consecutive day. For eight days now the total cases in Gujarat have fallen below the 10,000 mark. The state registered 4,251 new infections per day in the last 24 hours. In all, 8,783 patients were discharged during the same period. Sixty-five deaths due to the disease were recorded in the last 24 hours in the state.

Ahmedabad and Surat Municipal Corporations recorded nine and four deaths each while four and three deaths each were recorded in municipal corporations of Vadodara and Rajkot respectively.

Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 803 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 269 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 171 cases.
