Gujarat High Court quashes PASA order against Suraj Kahar

Aaquib Chhipa, Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has quashed the detention order against notorious criminal Suraj Kahar who was booked under the Prevention of Anti Social Activities Act (PASA). He was booked under PASA after he carried out a rally in an Audi car following his bail in a murder case registered against him in June last year.

The Gujarat High Court has quashed and set aside the order of the Vadodara Police Commissioner booking Suraj Kahar under the PASA Act.
After the case was registered against him, he was transferred to a jail in Surat.

What was the Audi incident involving Surat Kahar?

In June 2020, Kahar, who was released on bail from Central Jail in Vadodara, paraded himself in an Audi car flanked by supporters on two-wheelers making a mockery of both the law enforcement and the social distancing norms amid the pandemic in Vadodara.

On reaching his home near Varasiya people felicitated him by carrying him on their shoulders. The matter came to light after a video of the celebrations and the rally went viral.

Suraj Kahar is a history-sheeter and has around 20 cases including murder cases registered against him in various police stations of Vadodara city.
