The Gujarat High Court on Thursday directed the State Election Commission to include the name of Ghatlodia Corporator Jatin Kumar Patel in the voter list at the earliest. His name had been deleted from the voters’ list.

The division bench of Gujarat High Court observed that it was a silly mistake on the part of the applicant which led to the trouble.
The court instructed the SEC to include the name of the corporator – Jatin Kumar Patel in the voters’ list.

The court said we expect the commission to issue necessary instructions by late evening Thursday so that necessary correction can be affected by Friday morning.

The advocate appearing for the state submitted that only the SEC can now rectify the mistake committed by the applicant. Even the collector, cannot do anything, as the voter list has already been forwarded to the SEC. If any rectification is to be carried out, it is only the SEC that can do it.

They also instructed the advocate appearing for the SEC to speak to the authority concerned in this regard at the earliest.

What is the BJP corporator’s case?

As per details, Jatin Patel had made an application to delete his father’s name from the voter’s list. His father had passed away and Patel made the application to get his name deleted from the voter’s list.

But his name was also deleted along with that of his father.

Jatin Patel is BJP’s sitting corporator from Ghatlodia and has sought a ticket from the BJP to contest the upcoming AMC civic body elections. If a candidate’s name is missing from the voter’s list the candidate is not eligible to contest the elections.
