The Gujarat High Court Advocates Association on Saturday wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court seeking resumption of physical functioning of the Gujarat High Court.
The letter stated that the Managing Committee of Gujarat High Court Advocates Association on February 13 has decided to request the chief justice to start the physical functioning of the Gujarat High Court at the earliest.
In the event the request is not acceded, the general body endorses the decision of the managing committee to stage a protest at Gate No 2 of the high court on February 19.
Earlier, the high court allowed physical functioning of subordinate courts (outside containment zones) in four major cities of Gujarat from March 1, after the various bar presidents wrote a letter to the chief justice of the high court.
The argument for the physical presumption of Gujarat high court functioning
The Gujarat High Court advocate association has submitted that the State Election Commission is conducting civic body polls in the state in which 45 million people are likely to participate.
On the other hand, there is a cricket match between England and India in a stadium in the city and the PM is also invited to watch the match. Hence their request for the physical functioning of the high court should be taken into consideration as well.
The high court has been hearing cases via video conferencing just after the initial days of the COVID pandemic. It is the first high court in the country to live stream court proceedings on youtube.
