Gujarat bypolls update: Morbi village boycotts elections, 3 held in Karjan for distributing cash


Morbi: Villagers of New Navlakh village in Madiya of Morbil boycotted the bypolls. The voters said that they have been demanding a separate gram panchayat for their village for some time now but it has not been accepted so far.

As a result, against the 303 registered voters, not one person has voted so far since voting began in the morning. Both Congress and BJP workers tried to persuade the voters to vote but they have so far not budged from their position to boycott the voting process.

In another booth in Morbi, Congress workers stopped voting in the boys’ school after BJP workers distributed pamphlets supporting the Saffron party outside the premises. A complaint was also made with the Election Commission which is looking into the same. 

Bogus voting claims in a village in Limbdi during bypolls


Limdi: A complaint of bogus voting was reported from Gedi village in Limdi seat where bypolls are being held. Congress workers filed a complaint with the election officers present at the scene. They have alleged that bogus voting was being carried out here. 

The Congress has claimed that one person has voted more than five times and has filed a complaint with the presiding officer and the deputy collector. A probe into the complaint, however, found that the allegations were not true.

Money distributed in Karjan bypolls


Karjan: A video which has gone viral on social media purportedly shows BJP workers distributing money to voters in Karjan. The video is of Por-Itala area in Karjan, one of the eight seats that went to polls on Tuesday.  

Police have reportedly arrested three people in this collection. Cops have also seized Rs57,000 and a car from them. The Election Commission has also ordered an inquiry into the matter.
