The BJP office in Gandhinagar wore a festive look on the back of a fabulous performance by the party in the bypolls. The BJP is ahead in all the eight seats that went to polls in Gujarat.

With the party and allies also edging ahead in the Bihar polls, it is a cause for double celebration for the Saffron Party.

Meanwhile, the Congress office in Paldi wore a deserted look. As the results trickled in and pointed to the BJP leading in all the seats, party workers began gathering at Kamlam in Gandhinagar.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Gujarat BJP President CR Patil also reached the BJP’s headquarters in the state- Kamlam.

As per the latest reports, in Dhari, the BJP is ahead with 2,700 votes while in Limdi, the BJP candidate is ahead by over 15000 votes. The party is also leading in all the other six seats.

In Abdasa, the party is ahead by 11,000 votes after 10 rounds of counting. In all 81 candidates are in the fray for the bypolls for eight seats.

Why Gujarat bypolls had to be held?

The by-elections in Gujarat for eight seats were necessitated after eight Congress MLAs resigned from the party ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat.

The eight vacant assembly constituencies are Abdasa, Limdi, Karjan, Dangs, Kaprada, Morbi, Gadhda and Dhari. Initially, four MLAs of the Congress resigned in the run-up to the Rajya Sabha polls but by the time the polls were held, four more had resigned.

This helped the three candidates of the BJP win the Rajya Sabha polls while only one of the Congress sailing through. Originally as per the strength, Congress was poised to win two seats but the resignation of its eight MLAs spoiled Congress’ game plan.
