Dhari, a stronghold of Patels, chose BJP candidate JV Kakadia as its MLA in the bypolls, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.
BJP won all the eight seats that saw bypolls. JV Kakadia of the BJP polled 49,695 votes against Congress’ Surest Kotadiya who got 32,592 votes. NOTA got 2,357 votes.
Despite his victory, JV Kakadia’s victory margin from Dhari dipped from 18,336 in 2017 to 17,209 in 2020. In 2017, Kakadia, then a Congress candidate had defeated BJP’s Dilip Sanghani. Kakadia had later resigned from Congress and joined the BJP and the buzz was that the voters were angry with his defection.
The results, however, showed that Kakadia remained popular among the voters. Congress has won the seat five times while BJP has won it four times. The seat was one by the Parivartan Party once.
BJP wins Gadhada bypolls
Atmaram Parmar of the BJP has won the Gadhada seat in the recently held bypolls. Atmaram Parmar won the seat with 23,047 votes. Atmaram Parmar maintained his lead from the very beginning when votes were counted. By the sixth round, Congress candidate Mohanlal Solanki accepted his defeat and congratulated his rival.
Dangs goes to Saffron Party
BJP won the Dangs seat with 59,504 votes on Tuesday. BJP’s Vijay Patel defeated his nearest rival, Congress’ Suryakant Govit. Dangs has traditionally been a Congress seat. In the year 2017, Congress won with a slim margin of 768 votes.
Before 2020, the BJP had won the seat only once in 2007 when Vijay Patel won the seat for the party. For the last two times, Congress’ Mangal Govit had won the seat. Congress has won the seat five of the six times it went to polls.
