Gujarat which saw bypolls for eight seats on Tuesday recorded 58.14% of polling. The highest polling percentage was for Dangs which saw 74.71% of polling while the lowest was in Dhari which saw 45.74% polling.
In all, the bypolls had 80 candidates in the fray for the eight seats. The bypolls for eight seats were necessitated after the Congress MLAs resigned from the party ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.
Five of them later joined the BJP and contested the polls as BJP’s candidates. Ther results will be declared on November 10.
Congress accuses Vijay Rupani’s wife of campaigning during polling in Morbi
The Congress has accused the wife of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Anjali Rupanni, of campaigning for the party at the time of polling.
Babubhai Patel, chairman of GPCC election co-ordination committee said that the polling agent of Congress in booth number 198 of Sanghli village in Shinor Taluka in Karjan was constantly being called by the local cops as a result of which he had to leave his post. The party has complained to the presiding officer about the same.
It also alleged that Anjali Rupani was campaigning for the party in Morbi seat while the polling was going on. The Congress said that as per rules those who are not part of the seat cannot be present for the campaign there during the polling.
Despite this, she was campaigning on the seat at the time of polling with other BJP workers. Congress alleged that she was urging voters to vote for BJP.
