The funds given under the Jal Jivan Mission by the Centre to Gujarat has doubled in the year 2020-21. The Centre had allocated Rs390.31 crore to Gujarat in the year 2019-20 under the mission while in the year 2020-21 it came to Rs883.08 crore.
This detail was revealed by Minister of Jal Shakti, Rattan Lal Kataria in the Rajya Sabha on Monday in response to a question by MP Parimal Nathwani.
The minister said that the mission was announced on August 15, 2019, and so far 3.36 crore rural households have been connected with a tap water connection across the country. This figure was 11.12 lakh in Gujarat.
Of the Rs883 crore that was allocated to Gujarat in the year 2020-21 Rs662.76 crore was distributed up to February 2021.
Parimal Nathwani had also asked how many households in Gujarat had been given a tap connection under the scheme.
Of the money that was allocated Rs387.66 crore has been used under the mission in Gujarat in 2020-21 while Rs384.61 crore was used in the year 2019-210.
