A fire in a textile factory in Nanu Kaka Estate in Pirana-Pipdaj has trapped 14 people killing 12 of them. Of the total deceased seven are men and five are women.
The fire led to a blast in the boiler which also brought down the structure trapping 14 people inside. Six fire tenders have been rushed to the spot. Later NDRF was also pressed into action and 21 people were rescued.
Sources said that the factory did not have fire safety and that the owner is absconding.
The injured have been moved to the LG Hospital and the condition of six others are reported to be serious. The death toll is likely to go up further.
Initial reports suggested that the fire and the resultant blast was so severe that the pillars that held the structure were completely broken down. In all 24 fire tenders and 60 men were put to work to douse the fire.
