COVID cases in Gujarat reached a whopping 6021 new infections per day in the last 24 hours, the highest since the pandemic began. In all 2854 patients were discharged during the same period. Fifty five deaths due to the disease were recorded in 24 hours in the state.
Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot Municipal Corporations recorded 20, 18, 7, and 4 deaths respectively. Two fatalities were recorded from Rajkot district and one each from Bharuch, Sabarkantha, Botad and Surat.
The state at present has 30,680 active cases of which 216 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 3,17,981 patients while the fatality stands at 4,855.
Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 1,907 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 1174 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 295 cases.
Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 261 and 503 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 51 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 89.95%.
Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 3.53 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 84,000 cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 76,000 cases and Vadodara over 39,000 cases.
COVID vaccination in the state
So far over 82.37 lakh, people have been given the first dose of the vaccine while over 11.12 lakh have received the second dose of vaccine. In all, over 93.50 people have received the vaccine so far, one of the highest in the country.
In the last 24 hours, 1.73 lakh people above the age of 60 years and those above 45 years of age but suffering from serious illness were vaccinated for the first dose. 42,558 people in the age group got the second dose of vaccine today. Vaccination for those above 45 years of age began from April 1 onwards.
Banaskantha had vaccinated 20,593 people being vaccinated in a day, the highest in the state followed by Ahmedabad and Surat Municipal Corporation which vaccinated 18,376 and 14,901 shots respectively being given.
