Curfew timings in 36 towns and cities have been reduced. The new timing is applicable from May 28 onwards. The curfew will now be put in place from 9 pm to 6 am.

The Gujarat government had on May 17 announced that the night curfew in place in 36 towns and cities of Gujarat including the 8 municipal corporations will continue up to May 20.

The curfew was to come to an end on May 18 and the state was to announce a decision on whether to ease the restrictions or lift the curfew altogether.

The decision was taken given the COVID situation and the fact that the state at that time was bracing for cyclone Tauktae. Although the number of COVID cases in the state had been steadily coming down the government decided to extend it for up to May 20.

At that time the curfew timings were 8 pm to 6 am.

The Gujarat government had on May 4 announced an extension of the curfew to 36 towns and cities of Gujarat. The curfew was to be valid from 8 pm to 6 am. The government had initially put the eight municipal corporations under curfew and later extended it to 29 towns and cities.

But later it extended to cover Deesa, Ankleshwar, Vapi, Modasa, Radhanpur, Kadi, and Visnagar among others. Thus, all 36 towns and cities are now under curfew in the state.

The earlier curfew was valid from May 6 to May 12. A core committee meeting chaired by Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani had at that time taken the decision. The committee decided that all activities and services associated with COVID 19 like hospitals, pharmacies, oxygen supply plants, and such will continue to function.
