Gujarat home minister Pradipsinh Jadeja on Thursday said that as of now there is no question of removing night curfew in the four major cities of Gujarat. Jadeja while speaking at a function in Surat said the curfew will continue as it is for now.

As the state had registered a dip in COVID -19 cases in the last few days it was believed that the state may ease the night curfew but now this won’t be the case.

Earlier on December 7, Gujarat DGP Ashish Bhatia had said that the night curfew in all the four major cities of Gujarat will continue until further notice. The earlier night curfew was to end on December 7 midnight.

The government has imposed a night curfew in four cities- Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara- to help curb the surge in COVID cases post-Diwali.

The state had earlier imposed a 57-hour curfew in Ahmedabad from Friday 9 pm to prevent the surge of a crowd during the weekend. Later it also announced a night curfew for Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot.

Other measures except curfew

It has also deferred the reopening of schools. Earlier the government had announced that it will reopen classes 9 to 12 and universities from November 23 onwards. But as cases surged post-Diwali, the government has decided to defer the reopening of schools.

The reopening was only for students of class 9 to 12 and universities.  Earlier the Ahmedabad Medical Association had also urged the state to postpone the reopening of schools to December.

The AMC in November decided to postpone the Kankaria carnival celebrations this year owing to the rise in COVID-19 cases and it would have been difficult to follow the COVID-19 norms including maintaining social distancing.

The Vibrant Gujarat Summit that was to be held in January or February of 2021 was also cancelled this year due to COVID-19.
