The AMC has begun the door-to-door survey of people over 50 years of age as the third phase of trials for India-made COVID vaccine Covaxin is underway in the state. Paramedical staff began the survey on Thursday.
The COVID vaccine will be given to health workers in the first phase while the second phase will cover transport employees, sanitation workers among others. The third phase will cover those over 50 years of age.
The AMC had earlier begun the registration of health workers in the city. 40,000 such workers had registered with the civic body of which 25,000 were with the AMC while the rest were from the private sector.
The second phase will cover frontline warriors including water management staff, sanitation workers, bus drivers, and conductors among others.
AMC has already begun creating a list of such workers.
On Thursday a task force was prepared for the 33 districts at the municipal and taluka level. The survey which will be carried out till December 16 will cover people over 50 years of age who have co-morbid conditions.
They will have separate details about those suffering from a serious illness like cancer, heart ailments, kidney disease, Thalassemia, HIV, and mental illness.
Phase 3 trials of Covaxin began in Gujarat on November 26 at Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. It is among the 130 centres across the country where the third phase of clinical trials of Covaxin is being conducted.
