As COVID surges in Gujarat, there is a rise in the number of mask violators and the penalty charged from them. The state has become strict with the implementation of the mask rule and in the last four days, the Gujarat police earned Rs2.66 crore as a fine from mask violators. This also includes those who were fined for spitting in public.

Earlier, Gujarat DGP had directed the men in khaki to get strict about implementing the mask rule. DGP Ashish Bhatia had clarified that the cops need to penalize even those who wore a mask but did not bother to cover their noses. All mask violators are fined Rs1000.

Ahmedabad alone has seen over 50 cops testing positive for COVID in the last many days since the second wave began. The DGP has also asked that strict action be taken against policemen who violate the mask rule as well.

Earlier, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had also appealed to the citizens to wear a mask stating that masks and vaccines were the only weapons available to fight the pandemic.
