COVID cases fall below 5000 in Gujarat for 2nd day, cases drop below 1000 in Ahmedabad


COVID cases in Gujarat registered a drop of below 5,000 on Friday for the second consecutive day. For eight days now the total cases in Gujarat have fallen below the 10,000 mark. The state registered 4,251 new infections per day in the last 24 hours. In all, 8,783 patients were discharged during the same period. Sixty-five deaths due to the disease were recorded in the last 24 hours in the state.

Ahmedabad and Surat Municipal Corporations recorded nine and four deaths each while four and three deaths each were recorded in municipal corporations of Vadodara and Rajkot respectively.

All other districts except Mahisagar, Dahod, Narmada, Gandhinagar Corporation, Valsad, Morbi, Chhota Udepur, Surendranagar, Dangs, and Botad have registered COVID fatalities.

The state at present has 84,421 active cases of which 692 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 6,86,581 patients while the fatality stands at 9,469.

Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 803 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 269 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 171 cases.

Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 367 and 175 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 45 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 87.97%.

Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 7.80 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 2.31 lakh cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 1.37 lakh cases and Vadodara over 70,000 cases.

COVID vaccination status

So far 1.50 crore people have been vaccinated in the state. The state had halted vaccination for those in the 18 to 44 age group for three days and later for everyone due to cyclone Tauktae resumed the same on Thursday.

30,110 people above 45 years of age got their first shot of vaccine while 29,794 people got their second shot of vaccine on Friday.

45,113 people in the 18-44 age group got vaccinated in the last 24 hours. In all 1.17 lakh, people were vaccinated in the state during the same period.
