Gujarat records 3,575 new COVID cases, 22 deaths in 24 hours

COVID cases in Gujarat continued to scale new heights as it recorded 3,575 new infections in the last 24 hours while 2,217 patients were discharged. Twenty two deaths due to the disease were recorded during the same period.

Eight deaths each were reported from Surat Municipal Corporation and six from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation limits. Two fatalities were recorded in Surat district. Banaskantha, Mahisagar, Mehsana, Panchmahals recorded one death each while Bhavnagar and Vadodara Municipal Corporation also saw one fatality each.

The state at present has 18,684 active cases of which 175 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 3,05,149 patients while the fatality stands at 4,620.

Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 804 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 621 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 198 cases.

Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 351 and 395 cases respectively.  State capital Gandhinagar recorded 40 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 92.90%.

Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 3.24 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 76,000 cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 69,000 cases and Vadodara over 36,000 cases.

The state has now made RT-PCR test mandatory for all visitors from outside the state but those who can show that they are citizens of Gujarat won’t need the test.

COVID vaccination in the state

So far over 71.86 lakh, people have been given the first dose of the vaccine while over 8.74 lakh have received the second dose of vaccine. In all, over 80 lakh people have received the vaccine so far, one of the highest in the country.

In the last 24 hours, 1.48 lakh people above the age of 60 years and those above 45 years of age but suffering from serious illness were vaccinated for the first dose. 20,656 people in the age group got the second dose of vaccine today. Vaccination for those above 45 years of age has begun from April 1 onwards.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation saw 18,510 COVID vaccines being given in a day, the highest in Gujarat. Vadodara Municipal Corporation had vaccinated 15,129 people while Rajkot Corporation limits saw 8,280 people getting the shots.

The state said no adverse effects were reported state due to the vaccination.
